I woke up Friday in a much better mood than yesterday. Thank goodness. I was hungry, so I grabbed leftover mac and cheese. Breakfast of champions. I saw that Cole was having some, too, and was watching TV.
We watched the cooking channel together until Cole finished his breakfast. Then he started his homework. Mine was done for a change, so I didn’t have to rush quite so much.
Kylie was the last one up this morning. She made herself a PB&J sandwich for lunch and put it in her backpack. Then as Cole and I were leaving for school, she was finally having a light breakfast of applesauce. Needless to say, Kylie was a few minutes late for school. She was an ‘A’ student, like Cole, so I wasn’t worried about a little tardiness.
When we got home from school, the twins went fishing and I noticed the garden was in dire need of attention. I used bug spray on the sage plants and watered everything.
Now that the plants were healthy again, the change in color was dramatic. They were back to their lush, vibrant green instead of the dull, lifeless hue they were when I got home. The plants were all ripe for the picking, so I harvested the sage, garlic and lemons.
I was hungry, so I grabbed some more mac and cheese while I watched the cooking channel. I wanted to be as good a cook as my Mom someday, but I still had a lot to learn.
In our usual rush to get to school this morning, we’d left the breakfast dishes scattered around the living room. I collected them all and washed the dishes.
Cole and Kylie came back from fishing, looking exhausted. They were also hungry, apparently, because Cole grabbed a bowl of peas and Kylie ate the PB&J she had brought to school for lunch. Cole looked like he was about to fall asleep in his bowl.
As soon as they were done eating, they both took much-needed naps.
When I was done with the dishes, I dozed off for a bit as well. My nap didn’t last long, though.
I was awoken by my phone chiming with a text from Akira, asking if he could come over. That certainly woke me up. I hadn’t heard from Akira since we met at the karaoke bar, and I was excited to see him again, regardless of how tired I was. Needless to say, I invited him over.
Akira and I were sitting on the sofa, getting to know each other better when, all of a sudden, I noticed that the damn vampire who’d bit me was right outside my door. He’d had the nerve to ring my doorbell. I suppose if he were here to attack me again, he wouldn’t have done that.
“Do you need to get that?” Akira asked.
“No. I’m hoping if I ignore him, he’ll just go away.”
“Ooookay,” Akira chuckled softly. “But it’s OK that I’m here?”
“Mhm. Better than OK,” I whispered, blowing Akira a kiss.
“If you’re trying to capture my attention, Emma, you have it,” Akira whispered in my ear. A tingle ran down my spine as the sparks started flying between us.
Akira looked like he was caught up in his own thoughts for a moment. I feared he was having second thoughts about me.
I got up and walked behind the sofa, saying, “Akira, can you come here, please? I want to show you something.”
“What did you want to…”
“This,” I said, cutting Akira off mid-sentence and giving him a quick kiss on the lips.
When I pulled back, I saw his eyes were wide in surprise. I guess he wasn’t expecting me to be so brazen.
I smiled to myself. Finally, my first kiss — and with Akira, no less.
“Sweet Emma — you surprised me. I was not expecting that.”
“Was it a bad surprise or a good surprise?”
“Definitely a good surprise.”
“This may sound really forward, but do you want to spend the night? Honestly, I’m exhausted, but I don’t want this night to end yet.”
“Do I want to? Absolutely. I’m used to being up late, so if you want to get some sleep, I can watch TV for a while. And I’d be happy to sleep on the sofa, Emma — no pressure. First, though, I want to give you a proper goodnight kiss.”
When Akira pulled me close and pressed his lips to mine, it was so much better than the first time.
“Goodnight, sweet Emma. Sleep well.”
“Goodnight, Akira.”
I went to sleep for a bit and woke a little while later. The first thing I saw was the empty spot in the bed next to me, which immediately made me think of Akira. I hope he’s still here.
I opened the bedroom door, causing Akira to turn off the TV and head in my direction. I sashayed toward him in my skimpy summer pajamas, intent on capturing his attention.
Akira’s eyes widened and he cleared his throat. “Emma, what are you doing up?”
“I slept a little but then woke up because I knew you were right out here in the living room.”
Akira chuckled softly. “That’s where we agreed I’d be, right?”
“Yes, but…”
“Emma, I’m trying to be a gentleman here.”
“I know.”
“Sweet Emma, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since we first met.”
“I think it’s pretty obvious that the feeling’s mutual, Akira.”
“I want to see you exclusively, Emma — if that’s something you want, too.”
“You mean I’d be your girlfriend?” I asked hopefully.
“Yes, and I’d be your boyfriend. What do you say?”
“Yes, of course!” I exclaimed, trying not to jump up and down with glee.
“Let’s take a pic so I can remember this moment forever,” I said, wrapping my arm around Akira.
“Akira?”
“Yes?”
“Tomorrow’s my birthday and — wait, actually, since it’s after midnight, today is my birthday.”
“And?”
“I know how I’d like to celebrate it,” I said, peeking over my shoulder to my bedroom door.
“Emma — you’re killing me here.”
“I’m serious, Akira. You’ve already made this my best birthday ever. Being with you would be icing on the cake.”
“Are you sure you won’t regret it later?”
“I’m sure. I really care about you, and I want you to be my first.”
“OK, Emma — if you’re sure.” Akira took my hand and led me into the bedroom. I locked the door with trembling hands. This is really happening.
Akira removed his leather jacket and tossed it on the floor.
I tugged on his hoodie. “This one, too, please. I want to see you.”
Grabbing both sides of the hem, Akira dragged the hoodie up his chest and over his head, tossing it on top of his jacket. “Better?”
“Mm. Much better.” My heart was racing as I admired Akira’s trim, fit body. I trailed my fingers up his left arm, tracing his colorful tattoo. “You’re still wearing way more clothes than me.”
“Fair enough,” he said, crouching down to take off his shoes and socks. He looked at me and I nodded. Akira unzipped his trousers and shrugged them off, adding them to the pile before returning to me and enfolding me in his strong arms. I nestled against his firm chest, his body radiating heat.
As I looked up at him, Akira began kissing my neck, causing shivers to run up my spine. I gasped and Akira took possession of my mouth with deep, passionate kisses, igniting a spark that turned into flames of desire. He lowered me to the bed and pressed me into the mattress. His every touch sizzled as he made love to me. It was everything I’d hoped it would be.
Afterward, we drifted to sleep, happy and sated. Happy birthday to me. 🙂
With only one day left to complete the challenge, let’s have a look at our skill levels:
Emma:
Emma picked up half a level in gardening, but that’s about it. The other, um, skills she picked up don’t count. 😉
Kylie:
Kylie picked up half a level in mental skill, reaching her maximum potential. She can now gain adult-level skills — logic, video gaming and fishing — even though she’s still a child.
Cole:
Cole also picked up half a level in mental skill, reaching his maximum potential and reaping the same benefit as Kylie.
Sweet couple

Akira is my favorite townie. ♥ I had my eyes on him for Emma as soon as they ran into each other at the karaoke bar. Until then, Paolo had a shot at being her boyfriend. Instead, he got friend-zoned. 😉
